M5/M50
M5 north to junction 8 for the M50
M50 to Ross-on-Wye and follow onto the A40 through Monmouth and then exit onto the A40 signed to Abergavenny. On outskirts of Abergavenny follow signs to Neville Hall hospital along the dual carriage way. You are not on this road for long so look out for the signs directing you off the A465 to Neville Hall and Brecon.
You will go past a Waitrose on your left and will then pick up signs for the A40 Brecon. Take the A40 to Brecon, through Crickhowell (nice pub/hotel called The Bear in Crickhowell) and then onto Llandovery.
Continue on the A40 (signed Llandeilo) and then take A482 right to Lampeter.
Through Lampeter on the A482 and out the other side (past a Co-op store on your right) This wiggles along through lots of little villages including Temple Bar and Ystrad Aeron. After about 20 minutes you will see brown signs for the National Trust Llanerchaeron Gardens, on the right hand side. The turning for Oakford (Derwen Gam in Welsh) is after this on the left. Follow this road into Oakford (past a caravan site on right) and at staggered crossroads turn right We're on the left, second cottage - TY GWYN house name to left of front door. Turn left into short lane/driveway. The gravelled area on the left is where you park the car behind the cottage.

From Aberystwyth
Take the A487 signed to Aberaeron and Cardigan. Once in Aberaeron stay on the A487 to Cardigan and New Quay. About 3 miles along this road there is a Londis shop and garage at Llwyncelyn. Take the first left turn after the Londis, signposted Oakford (Derwen-gam). Follow this road for about a mile into the village of Oakford and Ty Gwyn is the first cottage on the right, just before the staggered crossroads.

From M4
Take the M4 to junction 49 (Port Abraham Services) and then the A48 to Camarthen. At Pensarn take the A40 (short dual carriageway) signposted Lampeter. After a mile take the A485 towards Lampeter. Go through village of Alltwalis and take the B4459 and pass through Pencader. At crossroads with B4336 turn left towards Llandysul. At Pontwelly take a right turn at T-junction, towards Llandysul on the A486. (in September 2009 a new Llandysul bypass will open) Go through Llandysul and stay on the A486 to junction with A487 at Synod Inn. Turn right onto the A487 and head north towards Aberystwyth. About 3 miles along this road there is a Londis shop and garage at Llwyncelyn. Take the right turn just before the filling station and Londis store, signposted Oakford (Derwen-gam). Follow this road for about a mile into the village of Oakford and Ty Gwyn is the first cottage on the right, just before the staggered crossroads.
